Find the Blocks: A Route for All Fifteen Before the Clock Runs Out

Published · 2 min read

What the night asks for

The first night in Survivor in Rainbow Monster wants fifteen lettered blocks. The room is a single wooden hall with a checkered floor around its edge, a stack of pallets in the middle and a clock over the top wall. You share it with nine computer crewmates and, for most of the night, the blue monster; the suited red one turns up later. The block counter at the top left is yours alone — the others are collecting for themselves.

Use the shouts

Every time a crewmate picks up a block, a green 'HERE!!!' pops over its head. Blocks are placed in small clusters, so the shout is a signpost: walk towards the last one and there is usually another cube or two within a few steps. Early in the night follow the shouts on the far side from the monster; later, when the clusters thin out, the shouts show you which corners have already been picked clean.

Box discipline

Space drops you into a cardboard box, and the monster ignores boxes completely. The mistake everyone makes is hiding too late. The box takes a beat to close, and the monster covers the last few tiles quickly, so go into the box when it turns towards you, not when it starts running. Coming out costs nothing, so a sprint of two or three seconds, box, look, sprint again is the rhythm that gets fifteen blocks in time.

The pallet trick

The stack of pallets in the centre breaks the monster's line of sight. If it is on one side and the blocks you want are on the other, walk the long way round the pallets rather than cutting across the open floor; it costs a second and saves a restart.

Knowing when to stop

Being caught restarts the night. Running out of time simply ends it, with your coins kept. So if the counter reads 13 with five seconds left, get in the box and take the coins; the next attempt starts with the block layout you now know.
