Rainbow Friends on Roblox and the Browser Fan Games: Which Is Which
Published · 1 min read
The original
Rainbow Friends launched on Roblox in June 2022, made by Fragment Games. A class trip to the Odd World theme park ends with the bus stranded, the players locked inside the park's buildings, and a voice over the speakers handing out chores — collect the blocks, fetch the food, fix the generator — while Blue, the tall crowned monster, hunts anyone who is not inside a cardboard box. Later chapters added more colours and a bigger map. It runs only inside Roblox, on its own servers, and cannot be embedded in a web page.
What the fan games do
Because the Roblox game cannot leave Roblox, everything called 'Rainbow Friends' on the open web is a fan game. Most are made in Unity, Scratch or Construct and borrow the setting: the coloured monsters, the box hiding, the night-by-night chores. Some are one-room hide-and-seek, some are platformers with the monsters as obstacles, and a few are rhythm mods. None are made or endorsed by Fragment Games.
Why Survivor in Rainbow Monster
We picked Dmobin's Survivor in Rainbow Monster for the home page because it keeps the part that makes the original work — a room, a chore, a clock and a monster on patrol — and because it runs cleanly in a browser tab without a plugin. The player characters are small crewmates rather than Roblox avatars, and the monsters are the studio's own take on the colours, but the loop is the one you know. It is a fan game, credited to Dmobin, and this site is not connected to Fragment Games or Roblox.
If you want the original
Open Roblox and search for Rainbow Friends by Fragment Games. The browser game here is a way to play the same idea on a machine where Roblox is not installed or not allowed.
